More Than Just Nine Lives: Why Cats Need Routine Veterinary Care

Many cats appear healthy right up until something is seriously wrong. That’s not because symptoms come on suddenly — it’s because cats are incredibly skilled at masking pain and illness. Regular veterinary visits help uncover hidden health issues early, when treatment is most effective and least stressful.

A Cat-Friendly Experience

At Wheatland Animal Hospital, we know that cats experience the world differently than dogs — especially when it comes to new environments. That’s why we’ve created a calm, cat-focused experience designed to reduce stress from the moment you arrive.

Cats are seen in a dedicated feline-only exam room, free from dog scents and distractions. Upon arrival, we also offer Feliway-sprayed blankets, which help create a calming, familiar environment and ease anxiety during the visit. Our team takes a gentle, patient approach to feline care. We allow cats time to acclimate, move at their pace, and use fear-free handling techniques whenever possible.

Education for Cat Parents

Caring for a cat goes far beyond the exam room. That’s why we offer complimentary bi-monthly Cat Classes, where a Wheatland veterinarian covers topics like enrichment, behavior, vaccines, parasite prevention, and more — with plenty of time for questions. These sessions are a great way to feel confident and supported as a cat parent.

Routine care helps cats live longer, healthier, more comfortable lives — and we’re here to make that care as positive and stress-free as possible for both of you.
